School's Out...Technically

Yup, end of the year. There wasn't any huge celebration at the end of the day Friday, there were too few people still present to actually startsomething like that. I myself went to a Subway near by with my friend Sean and Amiri and then went home to maybe play some video games. Exams start tomorrow, even though we had some in-class ones during the last month. The Math one had something to do with making a board game out of the Amazing Race show (copyright infringement ftw!), which is apparently the most popular show the Quebec School Board could think of...I would have prefered a House exam though, figuring out the area and volume things would seem so much more fun if it was House's cane.

I recently got the Flock web browser, which can be at times both annoying and helpful. It's great if you spent a lot of time on the internet using social networks like Digg and Facebook, and its pretty fast overall. But sometimes some of the functions get in the way, you'll see what I mean if you take the time and download it.

In music that I care about news: I recently discovered A Tribe Called Quest, a fantastic hip-hop band with great samples and better lyrics, as well as Groove Armada, a duo of DJs with a real knack for nice relaxing music as well as catchy club beats. If you ever see any albums by them lying around by either of these two groups, give it a listen, you'll love it.

Getting back to the subject of my exams, which I know is everyone's favourite topic (right?...RIGHT?!?), my other in-class exam was my English one, the class run by a crazy Newfie with some serious self-control problems. But that's a deifferent story. The exam itself was entirely based around our opinions on a short story (I forget the name, I don't think I even read it.). Yes, our exam was based on OPINIONS; we are being judged on our opinions. Although I suppose grammar and spelling does come into play in the marking process, it wasn't specifically mentioned anywhere in the thick-as-a-book notebook. I basically spent the 5 days in class listening to Daft punk and copying the "in group" questions off of the people conveniently located in the vague proximity of my English class seating near the rear window. Although I'm pretty sure I passed the damn thing with flying colours, it worries me a bit how our Quebec Reform (read up) is actually setting back our learning process decades at a time, and as my specific  graduating year is the Guinea Pig year, I expect nothing but more of this crap in my next two years.

Anyway, thanks for reading, I'll update after my exams are done (Friday)...unless I forget.

Apologies Are In Order

Sorry about the ridiculous delay, but I've been very busy with school work and such, and writing blog entries isn't very high on my priorities list. however, I still think I should start updating more frequently, just to get my thoughts on "paper".

As I might have already mentioned, I live in Montreal, so now is a very important time in our culture. Namely, the Habs are in the second round of the playoffs, and it looks like we have a good shot at going further. Being outside yesterday, a few minutes before the start of the game, things felt extremely surreal; people were either hurrying home to their TVs or sitting outside in bars. In case you don't know, we're playing Philadelphia, which means a lot of yelling about how one of their star forwards (Danny Briere) was supposed potentially going to be on our team before her refused. In the end, we lost last night, allowing them to tie up the series.

In between the second and third periods of the game, my friend Alison called and invited me to a movie with her and her friend, I said yes, even though it would mean missing a possible Habs comeback. My Mom, of course, said no, since Cavendish mall is "soooooo far away" (it really isn't). Alison most likely took it personally, which happens a lot, and I'm waiting to talk to her today.

I'd like to end this with a kind of shout out to an album I love. It's called Demon Days, by The Gorillaz, if you like Rock, Pop or even Electro, you'll definitely like the album, it's produced by Danger Mouse, one of my favourite artists ever, and has plenty of fantastic songs, although the first few are a bit weak. My suggestion is to buy it if you see it, and then listen to it again and again; it doesn't seem that great on the first listen, but after a while you'll come to love it like I do.

Thanks.

Fashion Show

My school is holding a "Fashion Show" tonight. Usually I don't go for that kind of thing, but my friend Alicia is performing and asked me to come, so I'm going (also, It's her birthday).

Hope It'll be fun, writing tomorrow.

Thanks.

Monday at home.

A four day weekend is always fun. I woke up this morning in my blue pajama bottoms and a t-shirt, longing for muffins for some reason. My Rolling Stones poster had clattered to the floor at some vaguely remembered time during the night, it's one of those really big ones that seems to require wads of Sticky-Tac just to keep it up on my wall for a couple of days. Anyway, I figured out that my longing for muffins was brought on by muffins themselves, or rather, the smell of muffins.

It's halfway through the day so I can't completely predict what's in store for the rest of the day, but if it's anything like the first half, it will be uneventful, as a scheduled holiday should be. The only small interruption will be an Orthodontist's appointment later this afternoon, which means, if I'm lucky; no crackers for a week or two, and if I'm unlucky; applesauce for a month. School is tomorrow, which means my satanic alarm clock will be in full voice at seven AM and my sister will be in full voice at about six. It's "Day 9" of my school's nine day cycle tomorrow, which means Gym (hurray!) and some other classes that I can't be bothered to remember.

I've pretty much covered everything, attempted update tomorrow!

Thanks.

Created at one hour before Easter Sunday.

I've always naturally avoided the thought of "keeping a blog" or being "part of the blogosphere", whatever that means. However, recently I've started reading some of the "Blogs of Note" and found it fascinating how much more exciting and interesting a story becomes when it has a personal value to the storyteller, much like how a funny story that your friend tells you is more enjoyable than a joke some stand-up comedian made on TV. Anyway, this has inspired me to create my own, despite the fact that it will probably go unnoticed by anyone important.

I suppose I should at some point introduce myself; my name is Sam(uel) and am in the ninth grade at a public high school in the Notre-Dame-De-Grace neighbourhood in Montreal, Quebec. I've lived here since my birth, fourteen years ago, and I haven't really had a problem with the city in general (except for the weather, but i suppose every city has its own weather problems). I have a seven-year-old sister named Ann, who I will most likely refer to frequently in future posts. I have a happily together set of parents who aren't exactly overprotective, but definitely do lay down some ridiculous rules, that I generally follow if I can.

If at this point you're thinking I'm probably some sort of dork judging by my writing style, you're not exactly wrong, but I wouldn't sum up my personality as just dorky. I have an active social life, and though I don't go to many parties, i like people and people like me. I'm very close to average when it comes to school marks, even in English. I think this is because I'm just not motivated when it comes to school work; I just think of school as something mandatory to get through during the day, and if teachers happen to give me essays or long pieces of homework, I can never seem to get around to actually doing something about school when I'm not in school. Speaking of which, I have a project overdue for Science class that involves recording what I eat for three days. I will not do it.

If you're reading this, keep looking back, I'll have another post as late as Monday afternoon.

Thanks.
